Local speakers named for TEDx Hilton Head, set for May 11

Local speakers have been selected for the return of TEDxHiltonHead, set for May 11 at SoundWaves, 7 Lagoon Road on Hilton Head Island.

Registration begins at 8:15 a.m. with the program running from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with a continental breakfast and lunch provided.

Months of preparation have led up to the event, which shares the community's ideas worth spreading. The locally organized is centered around this year's theme, Reinvention, and features 20 inspiring local and regional speakers.

Every past TEDxHiltonHead event has sold out and only 100 tickets will be sold for this event, so advance purchase is recommended. Tickets are $75 each and are available at Eventbrite.com, with a search for TEDxHiltonHead.

Speakers include:

Joseph Arnegger: Artist; Ringling College of Art & Design; founder, SARTQ, Sarasota Artist Collective; exhibit designer, curator

Kaan Civici: Turkish émigré; dishwasher; waiter; storyteller; non-English speaker turned virtual English teacher to Turkish children

Jevon Daly: Writer, author, musician; Lowcountry Boiler; Silicone Sister; Unicorn Meater; Lowcountry lover and songwriter

Eric Esquivel: President and publisher, La Isla magazine; community and Latino advocate; board member, Latin American Council of South Carolina

Sheila Ferguson: Author; co-founder of Community Journeys; past president of Women's Association of Hilton Head Island

Jimi Gibson: Magician, illusionist, branding and product-launch expert; community advocate; Lowcountry nonprofit volunteer

Imelda Golden: University of South Carolina-Beaufort student studying communications; lifestyle and self-help blogger

Dennis Ittenbach: Board certified physical therapist, founder of H.O.P.E Life, Lymphedema, and Rehab Center, and the HOPE Life Cancer Recovery Fund

Juan Carlos Jimenez: Owner, Ta-ca-ron; professor; mathematician; marine biologist; Cuban émigré; cigar factory operator; wine aficionado

Jill Johns: Owner of Jill Johns International; co-host of The Pause Button 2.0 podcast; recipient of "America's Small Business Champions" award by SCORE

Dr. Wayne Johnson: Board certified physician; founder of Hilton Head Health & Wellness Associates and subsidiaries
