Nonprofit offers affordable veterinary care that supports rescue

Palmetto Animal League's unique approach to animal rescue creates a powerful resource for animals and their people. Saving animals in need is at the heart of everything the nonprofit, no-kill shelter does - and that includes providing pet owners with the support they need to love and grow with their animals.

"When we opened the Palmetto Animal League Adoption Center 10 years ago, many loving families wanted to add another pet to their family, but expensive veterinary care was a roadblock," said Amy Campanini, president of the organization.

PAL quickly realized a compelling need for economical veterinary care in the community. After much planning and consideration, the Palmetto Animal League Veterinary Clinic officially opened its doors in 2012. Setting quality, affordable care as the priority, PAL's clinic focuses on wellness and prevention.

"Far too often, folks are forced to give up a pet due to inability to pay," said Campanini. "We help animals and their families by providing routine care so they avoid costly veterinary bills for conditions that can be prevented like heartworms, fleas, dermatitis and many others."

Thanks to PAL supporters, including donors and clinic patrons, thousands of hardworking Lowcountry families now have access to affordable, loving veterinary care at the PAL Veterinary Clinic.

"For many animals, it is their first visit to a vet," said Campanini. "Accessible care helps keep pets in a caring home for their lifetime, decreasing the number of animals surrendered to shelters."

Each year, PAL rescues hundreds of cats and dogs, many with costly needs. Proceeds from PAL's veterinary clinic help make this possible.

"As a no-kill rescue, we vow to establish compassionate, life-saving programs," Campanini said. "When you bring your pet to our clinic, you are helping PAL save homeless animals."

The PAL Veterinary Clinic is a resource for every pet and every family, offering wellness exams, vaccines, microchipping, nail trims and more at affordable prices.

"Our customers are a combination of people who need the affordability of our services and those who support our mission," Campanini said. "Folks with multiple animals and people who rescue on their own find our clinic essential. At PAL, we see access to high quality, affordable health care for pets as a vital part of lifesaving."

The Palmetto Animal League Veterinary Clinic is located at 56 Riverwalk Blvd. in Okatie. For more information, call 843-645-1727 or visit PalmettoAnimalLeague.org.
