Palmetto Animal League hosts Kitten Shower for newborns

Spring means kitten season, and Palmetto Animal League needs help to prepare for the anticipated abundance of newborns. A Kitten Shower will be held from noon to 2 p.m. March 7 at the PAL Adoption Center, 56 Riverwalk Blvd. in Okatie.

There are two ways to help. Folks can bring a gift to the event and enjoy refreshments, kitten-themed activities for kids and learn how they can volunteer with kittens.

Another option is to send supplies directly to the adoption center via PAL's Amazon Kitten Care Wish List.

"We're barely out of February and kitten season is already making itself known," says PAL President Amy Campanini. "All of these kittens are born to the community but belong to no one, leaving our shelters overcrowded, especially during spring."

Much needed items include KMR (Kitten Milk Replacer) Powder for Kittens, Pedialyte, Royal Canin Mother & Babycat dry food, Miracle Nipples, bottle warmers, thermal cat mats, pet beds, puppy pads, cat toys, baby wipes and baby blankets.

Because of donations, PAL will be able to give spring kittens a great start in life. Every Kitten Shower gift, donated in person or online, will help these furry, little newborns grow healthy and strong as they prepare for adoption. For those who would like to volunteer, hands-on, with kittens, PAL is looking for additional foster homes to keep up with growing demand. Foster families give these precious creatures the time they need to grow, getting them ready for a lifetime of love. Fosters provide a comfortable home where kittens can thrive and a whole lot of love. PAL provides the rests.

"Just like in humans, stress can be a huge factor for kittens and puppies that are too small for the shelter environment," said Campanini. "Foster homes provide a safe, healthy place for newborns to begin life."

If you have been looking for a meaningful way to make a difference for homeless pets, spring is a great time. The PAL Adoption Center is full, with new animals arriving weekly. By providing a temporary home for a pet in need, you are helping PAL save lives, and these are Lives Worth Saving.
