Pedal Hilton Head Island, a series of cycling and cultural events, will be held Nov. 16-18 on the south end of the only Gold Level Bike Friendly Community in the Southeast.
The fun begins with two concerts featuring the music of the Grateful Dead. Local music label Swampfire Records is producing a special event at Coligny Theatre, 1 North Forest Beach Drive.
Lending their musical talents are local artists Jevon Daly, Näytiv, and Cranford Hollow, among others. Shows begin at 8 p.m. Nov. 16 and 6 p.m. Nov. 17. Concerts are $25 each.
Volunteers will be on hand an hour prior to concerts to give participants their check-in packets.
New this year is the Beach Grinder Bike Race, a fun ride that takes place entirely on the beach with various obstacles and surprises. Bikes are provided; divisions for all ages and skill levels are offered. Cost is $25 adults, under 18 is free.
The Main Ride will be held Nov. 18. The rain or shine event takes to the island's beaches, pathways and bridges, with events for every skill level.
The 10-mile beach and path ride starts at 9:30 a.m.; the 20-mile at 9 a.m., the 40-mile escorted ride at 8:30 a.m., and the metric century 62-mile ride at 7:30 a.m. and 7:45 a.m.
An after-party with food, drink and music will be held at Coligny Plaza following the races.
Cost is $65 for adults, with children under 12 free.
