There's a new signal in town.

The Town of Hilton Head Island recently activated a new traffic signal at the intersection of William Hilton Parkway with Pembroke Drive and Museum Street.

The new mast-arm mounted signal includes left turn arrows for both directions of William Hilton Parkway. These new signals are the first within the Town to incorporate flashing yellow arrows in accordance with S.C. Department of Transportation guidelines.

The new flashing yellow arrow, accompanied by a sign that reads "Left Turn Yield on Flashing (yellow arrow)," alerts drivers so they can safely make a left turn.

Other commonly used signals throughout the Town display green arrows, with a sign that reads "Left Turn Yield on (green circle)," to let drivers know when it's OK to make a left turn or allows them to yield to oncoming vehicles or pedestrians before turning left.

The public is asked to use caution at this intersection and abide by the traffic signals.
