The Art League of Hilton Head has awarded its 2026 scholarship to Bluffton resident Danyela Fusi, a graduating Beaufort County senior planning to pursue a degree in the visual arts.

The annual scholarship provides $2,000 to a student continuing studies in the arts. According to the organization, recipients are selected through a competitive process that includes portfolio reviews and in-person interviews.

In an award letter released by the organization, Art League Executive Director Kristen McIntosh said interviewers Denise DeMarzo and Sandra Hearn were “especially impressed by both the strength of your work and the clarity of your artistic voice.”

Fusi’s portfolio included works exploring identity, heritage and environment through drawing and mixed media compositions. The collection featured pieces inspired by architecture, history and cultural influences.

Among the works cited by the organization was “A Danube De Valladolid Mexico,” described as a scene inspired by reflections on a rainy evening. Another piece, “Basilica De Amor Del Madre,” was connected to Fusi’s Ecuadorian heritage.

The portfolio also included “Worlds Collide; I Am Me,” which combines Italian and Latin American influences in a detailed visual composition.

McIntosh wrote that Fusi’s portfolio demonstrated “a compelling range of subject matter and inspiration.”

“Your work shows both technical skill and a clear curiosity about place, identity, and history - qualities we are proud to support through this scholarship,” McIntosh said in the letter.

The Art League said Fusi’s work also draws from the South Carolina Lowcountry landscape. Her piece “Oyster Bed” was described as inspired by the colors and textures of local marshes and presented through a layered composition.

Fusi plans to attend Winthrop University, where she will continue studying and developing her artistic practice.

The organization said she will be recognized publicly during an Art League Gallery reception scheduled for June 24 from 5 to 7 p.m. Organizers said community members are invited to attend the event and meet the artist.
