Hilton Head Choral Society prepares holiday concert, recruits youth singers

The Hilton Head Choral Society will bring together Christmas classics, secular holiday favorites and Hanukkah selections for its annual “A Holiday Tapestry” concert at 7 p.m. Dec. 11 at First Presbyterian Church on Hilton Head Island.

The concert will explore the music and traditions of the holiday season, with selections ranging from reflective pieces to celebratory choral arrangements. The program is designed to highlight the ways music connects communities across cultures and generations.

The performance will take place at First Presbyterian Church, 540 William Hilton Parkway. Tickets are available through the Choral Society’s website at www.hiltonheadchoralsociety.org. The organization encourages early purchases because the annual concert often sells out.

The holiday performance follows the Choral Society’s Sept. 25 Fall Pops Concert, which celebrated the music of Dolly Parton while supporting children’s literacy programs in Beaufort County.

The fall program featured several songs associated with Parton, including “Coat of Many Colors,” performed by guest soloist Suade Anderson, and “9 to 5,” featuring guest soloist Katie Rogers. The concert also included an arrangement combining Parton’s “I Will Always Love You” with Sarah McLachlan’s “I Will Remember You.”

As part of the concert’s community outreach effort, Choral Society members, audience members and local supporters collected more than 100 books for SOUL2GIVE, a nonprofit serving children experiencing abuse, neglect, homelessness or poverty.

The organization also raised $786 for the Beaufort County branch of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, which provides free books to more than 3,200 children younger than 5 in the county.

“Dolly inspired us to do good for our neighbors in her name,” said Janice Creech, the Choral Society’s marketing director.

In addition to its concert season, the Choral Society is recruiting students in third through 12th grades for a new youth choir under the direction of Dr. Pam Kane. Interested students can email youthchoir@hiltonheadchoralsociety.org for information.
