Wildlife photographer Morgan Thompson will be the featured artist in a summer exhibition at Art League Gallery, where her images of Lowcountry birds will be on display for more than a month.

The exhibition, titled “A Feathered Focus,” opens June 23 and runs through July 24 at the gallery inside the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina. An opening reception is scheduled for June 24 from 5 to 7 p.m.

A special artist demonstration is planned for July 10 from 10 a.m. to noon. The event will begin with a gallery walk at Art League Gallery before continuing with a field demonstration at Fish Haul Beach Park. Organizers said both the exhibition and demonstration are free and open to the public.

Through her photography, Thompson documents the region’s bird population, capturing scenes that include feeding, courtship, nesting and territorial behavior. According to exhibit organizers, the photographs also highlight the expressions and individual characteristics of the birds she photographs.

“I hope my photography gives people a deeper appreciation for the wildlife that surrounds us every day,” Thompson said. “These birds have so much character, and I love capturing moments that allow viewers to connect with them in a more personal way.”

Thompson has lived on Hilton Head Island since 2017 and is a self-taught photographer. Her interest in wildlife extends beyond her photography work. She has volunteered with the Hilton Head Island Sea Turtle Patrol for the past five years and participates in the local environmental community.

Her photography has received recognition through the Camera Club of Hilton Head, where she has earned multiple first-place awards. In 2025, her image “Winged Embrace: Great Egrets Pair” was selected as a finalist in the National Biennale. Thompson is also an exhibiting member of the Art League of Hilton Head and has displayed her work through the organization for the past three years.

Gallery Manager Lyndsi Caulder said the exhibition offers visitors an opportunity to see a range of wildlife images captured by Thompson.

“Morgan’s photography captures wildlife in action in such a beautiful way,” Caulder said. “From her silhouette bird sunrises and sunsets to her almost-smiling baby alligators to her nesting egret babies, visitors get an up-close view of the Lowcountry through her lens.”

Art League Gallery is located at 14 Shelter Cove Lane inside the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina. More information is available at artleaguehhi.org.
