The Concert Truck returns for four free performances
The Concert Truck will return to Hilton Head Island for four free performances Sept. 28-29 at locations around the island.
Pianists Susan Zhang, co-founder of The Concert Truck, and Jonathan Mamora, winner of the 2025 Hilton Head International Piano Competition, will perform piano-four-hands programs during the two-day residency.
Performances are scheduled for 10 a.m. Sept. 28 at Jarvis Creek Park, 10 Nature’s Way, and 1 p.m. at Shelter Cove Community Park on Shelter Cove Lane.
On Sept. 29, performances are scheduled for 11 a.m. at Pockets Full of Sunshine’s Sunshine House, 64 Arrow Road, and 6:30 p.m. at Harbour Point and Sunset Pointe at Shelter Cove, 4 Shelter Cove Lane.
All four performances are free and open to the public. The concerts will be less than an hour and are described by organizers as family- and sensory-friendly.
Early childhood participants from The Children’s Center, Island Recreation Center, Sea Pines Montessori, St. Luke’s Preschool, First Presbyterian Day School and Live Oak Academy are among the invited audiences. Pockets Full of Sunshine’s Rays of Sunshine also are invited.
At the Sunshine House performance, the Rays of Sunshine will operate an outdoor concession stand selling popcorn, candy, water and soft drinks.
The Concert Truck last performed on Hilton Head Island in April 2025. The mobile concert venue was created in 2016 by pianists Nick Luby and Zhang, who converted a 16-foot box truck into a performance space with a piano, lighting and sound system.
Zhang made her orchestral debut at age 12 with the Augusta Symphony and has been a prize winner in several piano competitions. Her recordings have been featured on South Carolina Public Radio.
Mamora is an Indonesian American pianist and Southern California native. In addition to winning the 2025 Hilton Head International Piano Competition, he has won first prizes at several other international piano competitions.
The Concert Truck has partnered with arts organizations including the Washington National Opera at the Kennedy Center, Aspen Music Festival and School, Seattle Chamber Music Society, Southeastern Piano Festival, Piano Cleveland and Dallas Symphony Orchestra.
The Hilton Head Island residency is presented by the Town of Hilton Head Island Office of Cultural Affairs, Marriott Vacation Club and the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra/International Piano Competition.
