Vienna Boys Choir to perform in Bluffton

The Hilton Head Choral Society will welcome Vienna Boys Choir to the Lowcountry for two performances in Bluffton as part of its 50th anniversary season.

Vienna Boys Choir, one of the world’s oldest and most recognized choral ensembles, will perform its “Made in Austria” program, a wide-ranging selection that highlights Austrian musical traditions alongside international works. The program features Strauss waltzes and polkas, folk music and contemporary selections, showcasing the ensemble’s versatility and distinctive sound.

The choir traces its roots to the late 13th century, when boys sang at Vienna’s Imperial Chapel. In 1498, Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian I formally established a court chapel that included boy singers, laying the foundation for what became Vienna Boys Choir. Today, the organization operates as a private, nonprofit institution with a primary and grammar school serving about 330 students ages 6 to 19.

Currently, about 90 choristers perform in four touring choirs, all appearing under the Vienna Boys Choir name. Together, they present nearly 300 concerts each year to audiences totaling nearly half a million people worldwide. Since 1924, the ensemble has completed more than 1,000 tours in 100 countries, performing approximately 29,000 concerts.

In addition to touring, Vienna Boys Choir regularly sings Mass at Vienna’s Imperial Chapel alongside members of the Vienna Philharmonic and the men’s chorus of the Vienna State Opera. The choir also appears at the Salzburg Festival and the Vienna Philharmonic’s New Year’s Concert and has collaborated with conductors including Zubin Mehta, Riccardo Muti and Franz Welser-Möst. The ensemble is also active in charitable partnerships, including work with UNICEF, and supports outreach programs that provide free access to music education.

“Welcoming Vienna Boys Choir as part of our 50th anniversary season is an extraordinary honor for the Hilton Head Choral Society,” said Dr. Dustin C. Ousley, the society’s artistic director. “Their legacy of musical excellence aligns beautifully with our own commitment to choral artistry, and we are thrilled to share this rare and unforgettable experience with our community.”

The concerts are scheduled for Monday, February 23, and Tuesday, February 24, 2026, with both performances beginning at 7 p.m. at Lowcountry Community Church, 801 Buckwalter Parkway. The appearances are presented by the Hilton Head Choral Society and are among the marquee events of the organization’s milestone season.

The performances are partially supported by Town of Bluffton and Beaufort County accommodations tax funds.
