From public sector appointments to healthcare expansion and major real estate transactions, organizations throughout the Lowcountry reported notable developments in recent weeks.
Community Foundation names finance executive
The Community Foundation of the Lowcountry has appointed Sherry Burik as vice president of finance and administration.
Burik most recently served as chief financial officer for the Princeton Mercer Regional Chamber of Commerce. She holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Robert Morris University in Pennsylvania.
The Community Foundation of the Lowcountry serves Beaufort, Colleton, Hampton and Jasper counties. According to the organization, it administers more than 560 charitable funds and has awarded more than $138 million in grants and scholarships.
Sparklight launches communications platform
Sparklight Business has introduced Sparklight Unified Communications, a cloud-based communications platform now available to businesses across the South Carolina Lowcountry.
Sparklight said the service is available in Beaufort, Bluffton, Hilton Head Island, Ridgeland, Hardeeville, Hampton and Estill.
The platform is designed for businesses seeking communications systems that support office, remote and hybrid work environments.
Beaufort Memorial expands Bluffton care
Beaufort Memorial has added internal medicine physician Dr. Sreshtha Singh to Beaufort Memorial Palmetto Medical Group in Bluffton.
Singh treats a range of acute and chronic conditions, including high cholesterol, diabetes, high blood pressure and obesity.
He completed medical school at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine and finished his internal medicine residency at UPMC Mercy in Pittsburgh in June 2026.
The practice is located at 4818 Bluffton Parkway and provides outpatient medical care for adults and children ages 5 and older.
Record residential sale reported in Palmetto Bluff
The Ussery Group of Charter One Realty announced the sale of 393 Old Palmetto Bluff Road for $15 million.
According to the company, the transaction marks the highest residential sale recorded in Palmetto Bluff and, based on publicly available records, the highest residential sale in Beaufort County history.
The property, known as Heron Hall, sits on approximately 10 waterfront acres with more than 658 feet of May River frontage.
The estate includes a main residence and guest house with nine bedrooms, nine full bathrooms and two half-baths.
Hilton Head appoints new town attorney
The Town of Hilton Head Island Town Council has appointed Brittany Ward as the town’s next attorney, effective July 1.
Ward succeeds Curtis Coltrane, who is retiring after more than 20 years of service to the town.
Ward was selected through a competitive bid process. In her new role, she will provide legal advice to Town Council, the town manager, municipal clerk and town employees on matters related to town business.
Ward previously served as Beaufort County deputy county attorney from 2019 to 2022 and county attorney from 2022 to 2025. She later joined Finger, Melnick, Brooks & LaBruce P.A., where she assisted Hilton Head Island on legal matters.
Latitude Margaritaville earns national recognition
Latitude Margaritaville communities in Hilton Head, South Carolina, and Panama City Beach, Florida, were named among ideal-LIVING magazine’s Top 100 Best Places to Live.
The communities were recognized in the publication’s Summer 2026 issue.
Latitude Margaritaville communities are developed by Minto Communities under license from Margaritaville Holdings.
The Hilton Head development remains one of several Latitude Margaritaville communities operating or planned nationwide.
Congregation Beth Yam welcomes new rabbi
Congregation Beth Yam has named Rabbi Sharon Marcus as its new spiritual leader, effective July 1.
Marcus succeeds retiring Rabbi Brad Bloom.
She previously served for 27 years at Park Synagogue in suburban Cleveland and earlier as assistant rabbi at Fairmount Temple.
A Philadelphia native, Marcus graduated from Brandeis University and was ordained in 1995 at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in New York. She received an honorary Doctor of Divinity in 2020.
Her leadership experience includes service as president and treasurer of the Greater Cleveland Board of Rabbis and co-vice president of national events for the Women’s Rabbinic Network.
Habitat receives AARP grant
Habitat for Humanity of the Lowcountry announced it has received a 2026 AARP Community Challenge grant.
The funding will support installation of handicap-accessible ramps for qualifying Bluffton residents age 50 and older.
Residents interested in applying for the ramp program may contact Habitat’s Bluffton administrative office.
Habitat for Humanity of the Lowcountry serves Beaufort and Jasper counties and has helped 195 families since 1990, according to the organization.
