Lawton Stables has opened a renovated Small Animal Farm on Hilton Head Island following months of construction aimed at improving conditions for animals and visitors.
The new facility at 190 Greenwood Drive inside Sea Pines officially opened in late June with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The project follows renovations that began earlier this year to address long-standing drainage and mud issues in the animal farm area.
According to Lawton Stables, the upgraded facility includes new animal habitats, nutrition programs, enrichment opportunities and expanded daily care for the animals.
General Manager Haley Zimmerman said the project was designed to improve animal care while enhancing the visitor experience.
“We are incredibly excited to open the Small Animal Farm and share it with our community,” Zimmerman said. “From the beginning, our goal was to create an environment where animals receive outstanding care while providing visitors the opportunity to enjoy meaningful interactions with happy, healthy animals.”
Lawton Stables, located in the Sea Pines Forest Preserve, has long been a popular stop for Hilton Head families and visitors, offering horseback trail rides, pony rides and animal encounters. The small animal farm features animals including goats, cows, miniature donkeys, pot-bellied pigs, chickens, alpacas and a miniature horse.
The animal farm remains one of the stables’ most popular attractions, especially for families with young children. Visitors can feed and interact with the animals, and pony rides are also available for children.
Lawton Stables said the upgraded farm is part of its broader efforts to improve animal care and maintain family-friendly outdoor experiences on Hilton Head Island.
