Pulitzer Prize-winning ‘Doubt’ coming to Sea Glass Stage

Sea Glass Stage Company will present “Doubt: A Parable” Sept. 11-27 at Coligny Theatre on Hilton Head Island.

Set in a Catholic school in the Bronx in 1964, the 90-minute play centers on Sister Aloysius, an elder nun who becomes suspicious of Father Flynn, a new priest whose approach to the church and its students conflicts with her views.

Sister Aloysius becomes convinced that Father Flynn has abused a vulnerable student. Sister James, a younger nun, is caught between the suspicions of her more experienced colleague and her desire to believe that Father Flynn is showing compassion for the student. The child’s mother offers another perspective.

The play examines questions of fact, presumption and judgment as its characters reach different conclusions without having all the facts.

“Doubt: A Parable” won the Pulitzer Prize for drama, as well as four Tony Awards, including best play, and five Drama Desk Awards. Sea Glass Stage Company presents a Pulitzer Prize-winning production each season.

Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays. An optional talkback will follow Sunday performances.
Tickets are $35.
