IACHH bocce event opens season

The Italian American Club of Hilton Head (IACHH) is rolling into spring with one of its most anticipated fundraisers—the Bocce Tournament—set for Saturday, May 2 at Shelter Cove Park. All events are open to the public.

Rooted in Italian tradition and dating back centuries, bocce made its way to America with Italian immigrants and remains a symbol of friendly competition and community. That spirit will be front and center as teams take the court for lively play beginning at 10 a.m., all in support of the club’s charitable mission.

Club President John DeCecco, known to many as “Johnny D,” said the club’s events are driven by volunteers and a shared purpose. “It’s all about the volunteers and the community. That’s what makes everything we do possible,” he added.

The momentum continues with the club’s popular Annual Pasta Dinner on Sunday, May 17, from 4 to 7 p.m. at St. Francis by the Sea on Hilton Head Island serving up classic Italian fare in a warm, family-style atmosphere that has become a favorite in the community.

Then on Friday, June 19, the Annual Golf Tournament at Palmetto Hall Golf Club tees off with a 9 a.m. shotgun start. The event combines spirited competition with camaraderie on one of the area’s premier courses and includes a hot Italian buffet lunch, along with on-course contests and prizes—making it one of the club’s premier and most anticipated fundraisers.

All events are open to the public. Tickets and registration information for all events can be found on the club’s website IACHH.org, where participants can sign up, purchase tickets, or contact event coordinators directly.

Proceeds from these events support scholarships for local students and donations to area nonprofits—continuing the club’s long-standing commitment of IACHH to giving back to the community.
